A Letter to the Media from Occupy Wall Street

October 10, 2011 in World

After more than three weeks, the mainstream media is now covering Occupy Wall Street. The major networks have tried to make this a leftwing version of the Tea Party. They have tried to link it to the unions. They have reported that the Democrats support it. The Republicans don’t.

Here is a response to the media, written by Derrick Kardos, a participant in the movement.

you’re still not getting it.
your reporters are lazy.

traditionally, protests have been the culmination of a movement organized by a hierarchy of leaders who determined demands and then held public protests to promote those demands.

old way:
injustice–>organization–>demands–>protest.

but we aren’t a traditional protest.

our way, the protest comes first and serves as its own organizational tool.
the protestors determine their own demands.
messy, but much more democratic, yes?

the problem with the old way is the protest ends, the protestors go home, and the demands are ignored. repeat.

but our protest never ends.
that is why we call it an occupation.

new way:
injustice–>occupation–>self-organization–>revolution

what you reported as disorganized and rudderless
was actually in the process of self-organizing.
you were too blind to see it.
you were looking for an end at the beginning.

in just 3 weeks we’ve grown to over 60 cities.
we are ever 10000 strong today in new york alone.

we are occupying.
we are organizing.
we are growing.
we are not going to stop until our demands are met.
it is we who are too big to fail.

We are the People.

We hold this Truth to be self-evident:
A government which represents only the interests of banks, media conglomerates, corporations and the richest 1% is no longer democracy. It is oligarchy.

A new form of democracy has come to rescue the old:
a democracy by, for, and of the People again.

I’ve followed this event from the beginning. In fact, I began to tell my friends and family about it several weeks before the September 17 start date. My opinion is that Mr. Kardos, as part of “The 99%,” understands that something is wrong. However, as I have written previously, he may not know the details of fixing it yet. Therefore, he is participating in the movement.

He and the rest of those in the movement are setting aside the urgent to take time to look at the important, while trying not to get high-jacked by some of those who are currently in power.  That is the core of the Occupy Together Movement.

Don’t let the mainstream media fool you into believing otherwise.

What is your perspective? Have you taken the time to understand the Occupy Movement? What do you suggest as a resolution to these issues?

Riding the Momentum of Change

October 10, 2011 in Future

As we approach the middle of October, there is a sense that something significant may happen soon. Carl Johan Calleman still claims the Mayan Calendar ends on October 28. Harold Camping is persistent in believing the world will end on October 21.

Other spiritual teachers believe the Arab spring has reached America in the form of the Occupy Movement. They say this movement is growing and it is not about to stop as it is part of the overall plan for Earth’s benefit.

The Native American Hopi Tribe point to the prophecy of the Eagle and the Condor which says now is the time in which the two cultures: the modern West propelled by excessive fiery greed and aggression, and indigenous cultures with a softer, grounding, more reverential wisdom will fly together again. This prophecy states that in this era, the four tribes of planet earth (black, white, red, and yellow) will come back together into balance, leading to centuries of peace.

Those who believe in extraterrestrials say the large number of UFO sightings and the increase in alien reports means we have help for an upcoming transition.

News stories indicate an increasing unrest in the world’s population with economic and political situations.

Some writers forecast gloom and doom. Some forecast prosperity and peace. Still others forecast gloom and doom followed by prosperity and peace.

ChangeEveryone I talk with says they feel the approach of unprecedented major change. They are uneasy. They are on edge.

What does all of this mean? What is the peaceful response?

I believe it is the acceptance of pure potential with the understanding that whatever happens will lead to peace for all because there is enough for all.

Calleman’s recent writing points to October 28 as the beginning of the universe allowing us to be who we really are. He isn’t certain what that will look like. He is certain humanity will end directed evolution and learn just to be.

Camping has become the punch line to numerous jokes with his missed predictions of the world’s ending. However, I suspect his announcements are his way of attempting to resolve the changes he feels within himself.

Others are sensing the change and seizing the opportunity to use the momentum of the change for their purposes.

I think those people are wise.

This peaceful response of getting in the flow of the change allows us to be fascinated and amazed by everything that is happening. It allows us to use the momentum of change to benefit our little part of the world… and thereby improve the world at large. It allows us to trust that everything that transpires is for our benefit. It allows us to be aware of the changes while not being afraid of them.

I believe the absence of fear as expressed by an abundance of love is the key to this this time of significant change.

Do you feel the approach of an upcoming change? What do you think this change will look like?
